报告摘要：
The topic is the strategic direction of geosciences at the University of Cambridge, and the links to past work in geophysics and mineral physics upon which this will be built. Examples include work on the Bardarbunga volcanic eruption in Iceland of 2014, and the Earthquakes Without Frontiers Project led out of Cambridge. Delivering the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and COP 21 Paris Agreement presents an enormous and urgent challenge. Population and economic growth drive increased demands on a planet with finite resources. Simultaneously, humanity’s vulnerabilities to geohazards are increasing, due to fragilities inherent in urbanisation in the face of risks such as floods, earthquake, and volcanic eruptions.
报告人简介：
Simon是剑桥大学地球科学系矿物物理教授。在到剑桥之前，Simon是曼彻斯特大学地球科学和化学系地球化学光谱学讲师。 他曾担任NERC剑桥地球系统科学DTP的主席，并担任耶稣学院的研究主任。
